大漠沙如雪，
燕山[1]月似钩。
何当[2]金络脑[3]，
快走踏清秋。
注释：
[1] 燕山：此指燕然山，是西北产良马之地。
[2] 何当：何时承受。
[3] 金络脑：嵌金的马络头。《陌上桑》：“黄金络马头。”这里指贵重的辔头、鞍具等。

Li He
The desert sand looks white as snow;
The crescent moon hangs like a bow.
When would the steed in golden gear
Gallop all night through autumn clear?
The poet who cannot serve his country compares himself to a battle horse which cannot gallop at full speed.
