用自己的愿望 害怕和幻想消除寂寞
filling in the silences with our own wishes, fears and fantasies.
在这种不管世界看上去多空虚
Driven forward by the fact that no matter how empty the world seemed,

we knew that anything was still possible.

And, given the right circumstances,

世上有两种受折磨的人
There are two kinds of sufferers in this world:

those who suffer from a lack of life…

and those who suffer from an overabundance of life.
我总发觉自己属于后者
I’ve always found myself in the second category.

Actually, the gap between,

say, Plato or Nietzsche and the average human…
远大于猩猩与平常人的差距
is greater than the gap between that chimpanzee and the average human.
真理的境界
The realm of the real spirit,

the true artist, the saint, the philosopher,
大多数的人少有成就
is rarely achieved.
为何如此少
Why so few?
为何世界的历史和进化不是进步的经历
Why is world history and evolution not stories of progress…
而是这种无休止的徒劳无功
but rather this endless and futile addition of zeroes?
更好的价值没有得到发展
No greater values have developed.

Hell, the Greeks 3,000 years ago were just as advanced as we are.

It was in the middle of the desert, in the middle of nowhere,

but on the way to Vegas, so, you know,

every once in a while a car would pull in, get gas.

It was the last gas stop before Vegas.

Office had the chair, had a cash register,

and that was all the room there was in that office.

I was asleep, and I heard a noise.

So I got up, and I walked out,

and I stood on the curb of where the gas station ends,

you know, the driveway there.

I’m rubbing the sand out of my eyes, trying to see what’s going on,
在加油站的尽头的路上
and way down at the very end of the gas station…
他们有轮胎架
they had tire racks.
链条在身边
Chains around them, you know.
我看到一辆货车停在那里
And I see there’s an Econoline van down there.
那儿有个脱了体恤衫的家伙
And there’s a guy with his T-shirt off,
他正在给他的货车装货
and he’s packing his Econoline van…
装的是这些轮胎
with all of these tires.
他手拿最后两个轮胎
He’s got the last two tires in his hands,
装上车
pushes them into the thing,
然后, 当然,我去了, 嘿 ,你!
and then I, of course, I go, ” Hey, you!”
他转过身来, 他没穿衬衫
This guy turns around, he’s got no shirt on,

he’s sweating, he’s built like a brick shithouse,

pulls out a knife, it’s 1 2 inches long,

and just as I turned around, he was comin’ through the door.
我能看到他的眼神 我永远也不会忘记他的眼神
And I could see his eyes. I’ll never forget this guy’s eyes.
他也早看到了我
And he just had bad thoughts about me in his eyes.
我开了一枪 ,击中了他 砰正中其胸部
And I fired a round, and it hit him. Boom. Right in the chest.
嗙!他跑了 和他冲进来时的速度一样快,出了门
Bang. He went– as fast as he was coming in the door, he went out the door.
正好跑到两个泵中间
Went right up between the two pumps, ethyl and regular.
他以前可能吸毒, 超速驾驶之类的
And he must’ve been on drugs, on speed or something, you know,
因为他站了起来
because he stood up…
手中仍然握着刀, 胸口上淌满了血
and he still had the knife, and the blood was just all over his chest,
他那样站了起了, 稍稍动了一下
and he stood up and he went like that, just moved a little like that.
他感到很震惊
And I was pretty much in shock,
我松开扳机 操起锤子
so I just held the trigger back and fanned the hammer.
像过去那样 嗙 嗙 嗙 嗙 嗙
It’s one of those old-time– Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom!
将他打出了加油站
And I blew him out of the gas station.
从那时开始
And ever since then,
我总带着这玩意儿
I always carry this.
