Some of it – ‘Starbucks’ coffee.
我承认我也经常喝
I am regularly drinking it, I must admit it.
但我们必须意识到当我们从星巴克
But are we aware that when we buy a cappuccino
买♥♥下一杯卡布奇诺，我们也买♥♥下了意识形态
from ‘Starbucks’, we also buy quite a lot of ideology.
什么意识形态呢？
Which ideology?
当你走进一家星巴克
You know when you enter a ‘Starbucks’ store
那里通常都会贴着一些海报
it’s usually always displayed in some posters there,
传达出这样的信息：
their message which is:
是，我们家的卡布奇诺是比别家的贵
Yes, our cappuccino is more expensive than others,
但是—故事来了—
but – and then comes the story –
我们把收入的百分之一都捐给
we give one percent of all our income to some
危地马拉儿童来确保他们的健康
Guatemala children to keep them healthy.
保证撒哈拉农民的水供应
For the water supply for some Sahara farmers,
拯救森林，有机种植咖啡…
or to save the forests, to enable organic growing coffee…
等等等等
whatever, whatever.
这一套方案简直是巧夺天工
Now I admire the ingeniosity of this solution.
在以前，消费主义还很纯粹
In the old days of pure simple consumerism
你买♥♥完东西觉得有点儿内疚
you bought a product and then you felt bad.

My God, I’m just a consumerist
非洲好些人♥民♥还在挨饿呢
while people are starving in Africa.

So the idea was you had to do something to counteract

your pure distractive consumerism.

For example, I don’t know, you contribute

to charity and so on.
星巴克能够让你作为一个消费者的同时
What ‘Starbucks’ enables you is to be a consumerist and-
不会感到良心不安
be a consumerist without any bad conscience
因为用来对抗消费主义的价格
because the price for the counter measure – for fighting consumerism –
已经包含在商品中了
is already included into the price of a commodity.
你多付了点儿钱，你就不仅仅是个消费者了
Like you pay a little bit more and you are not just
你还贡献了一份责任
a consumerist but you do also your duty towards environment –
对环境、对穷♥人♥、对非洲饥民等等的责任
the poor, starving people in Africa and so on and so on.
我认为这就是消费主义的终极形态
It’s, I think, the ultimate form of consumerism.
我们不应只是简单的反对那种主流生活
We should not simply oppose a principal life
贡献责任、享受生活
dedicated to duty and enjoying our small pleasures.
就拿现在的资本主义来说吧
Let’s take today’s capitalism.
一方面来说我们需要这种
We have, on the one hand, the demands of the circulation
能推动我们创造利益的资本循环
of the capital which push us towards profit making,
膨胀、剥削、破坏自然
expansion, exploitation and destruction of nature and,
另一方面，我们也有生态需求
on the other hand, ecological demands:
要求我们考虑子孙后代的福祉和自身的生死存亡
let’s think about our posterity and about our own survival,
保护大自然等等
let’s take care of nature and so on.
资本主义膨胀与生态意识觉醒之间
In this opposition between ruthless pursuit of
有着不可调和的矛盾
capitalist expansion and ecological awareness –
责任，当然是那种“变♥态♥的”责任
duty, a strange perverted duty of course –
是站在资本主义这边的
duty is on the side of capitalism,
许多分♥析♥家都明白地指出了这一点
as many perspicuous analysts noted.
资本主义有一种类似宗教的架构
Capitalism has a strange religious structure.
它被绝对的需求推动着：
It is propelled by this absolute demand:
资本必须不断循环、不断重新生产来扩张自己
capital has to circulate to reproduce itself to expand –
来增加资本，达到目标
to multiply itself and for this goal

anything can be sacrificed, up to our lives,
哪怕是自然环境
up to nature and so on.

Here we have a strange unconditional injunction.
真正的资本家都是小气鬼
A true capitalist is a miser who is ready
随时能够牺牲一切去完成他们“变♥态♥的”责任
to sacrifice everything for this perverted duty.
我们现在看到的是莫哈维沙漠
What we see here in Mojave desert
这些被遗弃飞机的安息之所
at this resting place for abandoned planes
是资本家活力的另一面
is the other side of capitalist dynamics.
资本主义总是处于危机之中
Capitalism is all the time in crisis.
这就是为什么它看起来是坚不可摧的
This is precisely why it appears almost indestructible.
危机并不是它的障碍
Crisis is not its obstacle.
正是危机推动着资本主义的发展
It is what pushes it forwards
朝着永久自我革新
towards permanent self-revolutionising –
永久自我扩张生产的方向前进
permanent, extended self-reproduction –
永远都在生产新产品
always new products.
它的另一面就是这些废品
The other invisible side of it is waste –
巨量的废品
tremendous amount of waste.
我们对于这些废品堆的反应不应该是
We shouldn’t react to these heaps of waste
扔掉他们
by trying to somehow get rid of it.
或许我们首先应该接受这些废品
Maybe the first thing to do is to accept this waste.
去接受这些
To accept that there are things out there
没有服务价值的东西
which serve nothing.
这样才能打破这个资本运作的永恒循环
To break out of this eternal cycle of functioning.
