sepia (SEE pee ah) This is a dark brown ink or pigment that was originally prepared from the secretion of the cuttlefish. In fact the word comes from the Latin for “cuttlefish.” It is most often seen in old documents or manu-scripts, which were written in sepia-colored ink, or in old photographs.
