but it was important to define what punk was about.

But notoriety came at a price.

Now that punk was a matter of national controversy,

many of the pubs that had nurtured the pub rock scene

I remember one night I was singing,

Every new movement needs somewhere you can all gather.

the punk scene in ’77

was far from being a happy family.

Within the movement, there was lots of different tribes,

but that made for healthy competition.

That’s what was special about the scene.

You had these different camps trying to one-up each other.

“You’re shit. We’re the business.”

It wasn’t like some big commune of people working together

for the greater good.

朋克间才不会有好感 没有友情一说
Punks didn’t like each other. No camaraderie whatsoever.
一点都没
At all. None.
只有竞争
It was all competitive.

All these bands of people I’d known mates,

were all incredibly oppositional.
嫉妒就是他们的动力
It was really jealousy that was driving it.

They wanted to outdo the Pistols.
