Written on the Wall of a Post
Zhang Hu
Mountains stretch as far as the sky;
Boundless water flows far and nigh.
Seaside’s the first to see daylight.
When wind blows, with waves the stream’s white.
To highland a bird flies like dot;
A footpath winds from cot to cot.
But I can’t find my hermit friend
By lake side at my journey’s end.
