Yan Jidao –

Thinking of the Far-off One
Yan Jidao
Red leaves and yellow blooms fall, late autumn is done,
I think of my far-roving one.
Gazing on clouds blown away by the breeze
And messageless wild geese,
Where can I send him word under the sun?

My endless tears drip down by windowside
And blend with ink when they’re undried.
I write down the farewell we bade;
My deep love impearled throws a shade
On rosy papers and they fade.

注释:
This lyric describes a woman’s fond love for her roving lover.

Yan Jidao –

The poem “Thinking of the Far-off One” is a poem written by Yan Qidao, a lyricist in the Northern Song Dynasty. In the first section, it is about the sadness of longing for a distant traveler in the late autumn, and in the second section, it is about the extreme sadness and the tears of writing a letter in ink. The lyrics are different from Xiao Yan’s usual style of “overflowing emotions outside the words, but not meaning within them”. The lyrics are very curved, the words are very beautiful, they are subtle and have a deep taste and meaning, which is a different tone among Xiao Yan’s lyrics.
