北风初起易水寒[1]，
北风再起吹江干[2]。
北风三吹白雁来，
寒气直薄[3]朱崖山。
乾坤噫气[4]三百年，
一风扫地无留残。
万里江湖想潇洒，
伫[5]看春水雁来还。

[1]易水寒：出自《史记·刺客列传》，当年燕太子丹在易水河边送别荆轲去刺秦王，后来指代送别时的场景。
[2]干：古代作“岸”讲。
[3]薄：逼近，迫近。
[4]噫气：通“意气”，精神风貌。
[5]伫：久久站立。
Song of the White Wild Geese[1]
Liu Yin
When the north wind first rose, the Northern Stream was chilled;
The second time it rose, the south with cold was filled.
The third time when it blew, white wild geese flew away;
The southernmost frontier grew cold, they could not stay.
The vernal breeze blew hot and cold three hundred years;
When the north wind sweeps o’er the land, it disappears.
For miles and miles on streams I think of freedom’s reign,
And wait for spring and wild geese to come back again.

[1]The north wind symbolizes the Tartar invaders, and the wild geese the loyalist of the Song Dynasty, and the vernal breeze and freedom refers to the Song Dynasty’s reign.
《白雁行》是元代诗人刘因创作的一首七言律诗。这首诗以南下的三拨北风，形象地比喻了漠北蒙古国兴起后向南攻略，接着在中原建立元政权，最后则达成了帝国江山的一统，而建基三百年来的赵宋，在崖山一役后，像秋风扫地般，才没过多少岁月，整个王朝及其痕迹已踪影全无；而作者短暂的一生，恰身处如此巨大的时代变故中，回首谛视，不免发出历史沧桑的感喟。全诗一气呵成，潇洒流畅，气势不弱。
“Song of the White Wild Geese” is a seven-line poem written by Liu Yin, a poet of the Yuan Dynasty. This poem is a metaphor for the three sets of northern winds in the south and the south of the country, the rise of the Mongolian state in the north, the establishment of the Yuan regime in the Central Plains, and finally the unification of the empire, while the entire dynasty and its traces were lost after the battle of Yashan in the 300 years since the foundation of the Song Dynasty. The author, in his short life, was in the midst of such a great change of times, and looking back, he cannot help but feel the vicissitudes of history. The whole poem is completed in a single breath, and it is smooth and elegant, with no weakness.
