村晚
雷震[1]
草满池塘水满陂[2]，
山衔落日[3]浸[4]寒漪[5]。
牧童归去横牛背，
短笛无腔[6]信口[7]吹。

[1] 雷震：宋代诗人。《千家诗》注说：“陂，水岸也；寒漪，水上波纹也。当仲夏时，水草铺于池塘，绿水盈乎陂岸，而夕阳在山，下映于水，波光漾荡，红日如浸于池水之中。牧牛童子归村，横吹短笛于牛背之上，信口无腔而悠然自得也。”这是一幅农村归牧图，写出了劳动之余的农家乐。

[3] 山衔落日：落山的太阳好像是被衔于山中一般。
[4] 浸：倒映。
[5] 漪：涟漪，细小的水波。

Rural Scene at Dusk

Green grass overgrows the shore of the brimming pool;
The sun pecked by hills sinks into ripples cool.
A cowherd comes back astride on a buffalo;
He blows on his short flute a tune he may not know.

“Rural Scene at Dusk” is a seven-line poem written by Lei Zhen, a poet of the Southern Song Dynasty. It is a poem describing the evening scene in the countryside: the image depicts a pond surrounded by green grass, a red sunset that seems to be bitten by a mountain, and a child returning home from herding cattle sitting cross-legged on the back of a cow, casually playing a tuneless tune with a piccolo.
