夜幕会降临（2014）

随着二战在欧洲接近尾声
‘With World War Two in Europe drawing to a close,
英国，苏联和美国这三个盟国的军队
‘the three allied armies, British, Soviet and American,
开始向柏林移♥动♥
‘began their move towards Berlin.
在他们的队伍中有着一些受过专业训练的摄影师
‘Among their ranks were soldiers newly trained as cameramen.
在1945年4月，正在前行的英国部队
‘In April 1945, an advancing British unit halted
在德国北部的阿勒尔河停了下来
‘by the River Aller, northern Germany.
逐渐显现的事件，被部队里的摄像组录了下来
‘As events unfolded, they were recorded by the army camera crews.’

I think it was about 12th April.
显然有两名德国♥军♥官接近我们的前线
Apparently two German officers approached our front line
举着白旗请求跟我们的将军讲话
with a white flag asking to speak to our General,
然后他们被带了进来，其实还蒙着眼睛
and they were ushered through, blindfolded actually,
接着被带到我们的军队指挥部
and taken to our Corps Headquarters where I happened to be.
他们有一个来自他们将军的消息
And they had a message from their General.
这消息是我们正在靠近
The message was that we were approaching
大概会靠近一间大型的民用集中营
or probably going to approach a large civilian prison camp
那里爆发了斑疹伤寒
where typhus had broken out.

And their General wanted to send a message
说如果我们打着通过这个营地的话他不认为这是一个好主意
to say that he didn’t think it was a good idea if we fought through that camp

because those inmates with typhus would get loose

and would get amongst the civilian population

and the German army and the British army.

They pulled us out up a track,

‘And the British soldier did not fail to admire the place and its inhabitants.
至少直到他开始感受到恶臭的气味为止
‘At least until he began to feel a smell. ‘
黎明时分
Then dawn came up.

And then we could see where the stench was coming from.

然后大家就像疯了似的
And people went just crazy.

It was an unbelievable moment.

Suddenly you hear English spoken,

and we should remain calm, don’t leave the camp, help is on the way.

You know, that sort of thing.

It’s very difficult to describe.

There was hopelessness,

the whole atmosphere of depression.

Like the end had come.

The bodies, you lost contact. Reality went.

but you could never associate what you were seeing with your own life,

This was something completely separate. It was another world.

We were there for about two weeks filming all these sights,

really conveys the feeling of despair and horror

that can be done to people who are Europeans of another faith,

for no other reason.

And I thought as time went by it might leave me.

I wanted to forget.
