- matinee:[‘mætɪneɪ] n. 日场演出,白天举行的演出

matinee (ma tin AY) Although this noun comes from the French word “matin,” meaning morning, it actually means a performance that occurs in the daytime, usually in the afternoon. Although it’s almost always used to describe a theater performance or a movie showing, it’s also related to the Old French word “matins,” an ecclesiastical word that means morning prayer. It can also be used as an adjective:
- If we catch the matinee performance of the pastiche, we’ll have plenty of time to go to the museum before it closes.
