We are Buddhists from Tibet.
这些年来 我们过着流离失所的日子
For many years we have been living in exile,
我们的僧侣游走在 不丹、尼伯尔与印度等地
the guests of our brothers in Bhutan, Nepal and India.
自从1959年被强占之后
Since the occupation in 1959.
在藏传佛教中
In Tibetan Buddhism,
我们相信众生会
we believe that everybody is reborn,
不断的轮回
again and again.
仅有少数…
But there are a few…
会转世为…
very special beings…
卓尔不群的宗师
who come back as spiritual guides,
我们通过种种迹象来认出他们
particular people whom we can identify.
这就是我们此行的目的
That is why we are here.

who was even a teacher of the Dalai Lama,
在他圆寂之前…
towards the end of his life…
他觉得到西方来弘传佛法的
he felt he was needed in the West to teach the Dharma,
时机已经成熟
the path of Buddha.
于是他来到美国 来到西雅图
So he came to America, to Seattle,
也就是他九年前圆寂的地方
where he passed away nine years ago.
我们曾到许多地方 寻找过他的转世之身
We have been searching for his reincarnation in many places,
不过 目前我们觉得 他的转世之身就在这里
but now we think he might have been reborn right here,
也就是你们的儿子
as your son.
转世为杰西？ – 是的
As Jesse? – Yes.

2500年前 佛陀出生于古代尼伯尔的…
“Buddha was born 2,500 years ago…
一个小王国里 即迦毗罗卫国
in a small kingdom in ancient Nepal.
依照那时的习俗
As was the custom in those days,
在临产时时 王子的母亲摩耶夫人 要回到娘家…
his mother, Queen Maya, was returning to her parents’ home…
来产下她的孩子
for the birth of her child.
其间的路途十分漫长
It was a long journey for the Queen to make,
途经兰毗尼园的时侯 王后一行在树林边…
so, on the way, the royal caravan stopped for a rest…
停下来休息
by the edge of a great forest.
当王后进入树林时
As the Queen entered the trees,
她感到一阵睡意…
she fell into a kind of trance…
记起她怀孕的那天晚上…
and remembered a strange dream she had had…
做过的一个奇特的梦
the day she conceived her child.
在梦里…
In the dream…
一头小象出现在她的身旁…
a baby elephant had appeared at her side…
用鼻子为她祈福
and blessed her with its trunk.
摩耶夫人走到树林中时…
Queen Maya was deep inside the wood…
突然感到阵痛
when suddenly her birth pains began.
据说 一棵无忧树
And then, it is said, a tree,
预感到这个殊胜时刻的到来
understanding this great moment,
便缓缓弯下来保护王后
bent slowly down to protect her,
王后依靠在它的树枝上
offering its branches for her support.
在一片光芒中 金色皮肤的
The child was born with almost no pain,
释迦王子降生了
with shining, golden skin.
他思维清晰 眼眸明亮
He was fully conscious, his eyes wide open.
据说 王子出世就能站立在地上
And he was strong enough to stand on his own legs.
我为开悟成佛…
I have been born to reach Enlightenment…
普度众生而出世
and free all creatures from suffering.
向东南西北各走七步
And, it is said,
步步有金莲从脚下涌出
lotus blossoms grew in his footsteps.”
