沙漠覆盖 尘土飞扬的古老大♥陆♥
an ancient world of desert and dust.
在高耸入云的山峰之间 藏着一片鲜为人知的秘密山谷
Hidden amongst the highest mountain peaks lies a secret valley.
这是一片神奇的绿洲
Here in this magical oasis,
无数动物逃避沙漠的干旱环境 来到这里聚集栖息
countless animals gather to escape the desert dry.
对于每个在峡谷安家落户的生灵来说
For every creature that calls this valley home,
这里是它们的乐土
this is paradise.
不过 有一种动物 它们的数量在山谷里占据绝对优势
But there’s one animal whose numbers dominate the landscape.

Eastern grey kangaroos.

这片山谷中 住着超过2000只袋鼠
There are over 2,000 kangaroos in the valley,
我们的故事 就从它们中的一只讲起
and this is the story of one of them.
她就是玛拉
Meet Mala.
她即将面临一生中最严峻的挑战
She’s about to embark on the greatest challenge of her life.
此前 玛拉一向被 妈妈璐瓦娜悉心呵护 既温暖又安全
Up till now, her mother Lowanna has kept her warm and protected.
现在 破天荒的第一次
Now, for the very first time,
玛拉要离开安全舒适的育儿袋了
Mala prepares to leave the safety of the pouch.
欢迎来到这个世界 玛拉
Welcome to the world, Mala.
从这一刻起 玛拉会面对许多困难
From this point on, Mala will face many obstacles.
她要学会独♥立♥生活所需的全部技能 而她只有12个月的时间
She has just 12 months to learn everything she needs to survive on her own.
而且她成功的概率并不高
And the odds are not in her favor.
每五只袋鼠宝宝中 有四只活不过一周岁
Only one in five joeys makes it to their first birthday.

For this paradise is haunted by danger.

It encircles the valley.

Ravaged by wildfires, only the largest trees remain.

The scorched remnants of a once thriving habitat.
袋鼠们不到这里来
The kangaroos do not come here.
因为这里生活着他们最可怕的敌人
For it is home to their greatest enemy.
澳洲野狗
The dingo pack.
多年来 米加卢一直是这狗群的首领
Migaloo has been head of the pack for years.

He’s the best hunter in the family.
他儿子是一条年轻的黑色野狗 米罗
His son is a young black dingo called Miro,
去年冬天 他和玛拉同一天出生
who was born at the same time as Mala last winter.

Miro has been learning how to hunt.

It’s now time to prove himself.

Lowanna has been here many times before.

An experienced mother,
不会轻易带着玛拉逃跑 除非已经成为狗群的直接捕猎目标
she won’t flee with Mala unless the hunt comes to them.
慌乱会带来致命后果
Panic can prove deadly.
米罗还是新手
Miro is still new to this game.
他发现 成年袋鼠 比野狗跑得快 也更灵活
He’s learning adult kangaroos can outrun and outmaneuver a dingo.
他应该找到相对缓慢 更易攻击的目标
What he should be looking for is something slower and more vulnerable.
比如幼年袋鼠
Like a joey.
或者是育儿袋里揣着宝宝的袋鼠妈妈
Or a mother carrying a joey in her pouch.
他的机会来了
This is his chance.
袋鼠宝宝比米罗更重 影响到妈妈的逃跑速度
The mother is weighed down by a joey much larger than Mala…
但她必须尽全力奔跑
…but she has everything to fight for.
照这个速度 袋鼠妈妈很难确保孩子平安
At this pace, it’s very hard for the mother to keep her joey secure.
米罗还是不够专注
Miro just doesn’t have the focus.
他缺乏经验 容易分心
He’s inexperienced and easily distracted.

And it shows.

Miro must learn to fend for himself.

He’s running out of time.

Miro will eventually leave the pack and start his own family.

The joey that escaped is lucky to be alive.

It’s an important lesson for Mala.

Lowanna’s pouch is no longer a safe haven.

It’s summer in the valley.
白昼变长
The days are long,

the grass tall and golden.
小蜘蛛乘着纤细的银丝起飞
Spiderlings take flight on streams of gossamer webbing,
山谷罩上了一层轻丝的纱巾
coating the landscape in a silky veil.
距离玛拉第一次试探性地走出育儿袋 已经过去了一个月
It’s been a month since Mala took her first tentative steps out of the pouch.
她换了一身美丽的浅灰色皮毛
She now has a gorgeous pale gray coat,
就像她妈妈一样
just like her mother.
玛拉生在一个大家庭 一群袋鼠被称为“一帮”
Mala has been born into a family of kangaroos known as a mob.
她是最小的一个
She’s the youngest joey,

and she’s still learning who’s who.

Each and every one of her relatives

has their own unique personality.

The roos communicate to one another

A rip in his left ear is a battle scar from his struggle to the throne.

As king, Bamir is the only buck who’s allowed to flirt openly with the ladies.

the other males must crouch down and cough to show their respect.

And he’s not above reminding them who’s in charge.

On the edge of the mob is a bouncy brown-colored joey named Buru.

Born around the same time as Mala,
是个冒险家
Buru is an adventurer.

While Mala has been dragging her feet leaving the pouch…
而他已经在探索世界了
…he’s been out exploring the world.
也充分掌握了蹦跳的技巧
And he’s already mastered this whole hopping thing.
问题是 布鲁只会用一个速度奔跑
The problem is Buru only has one speed.
风驰电掣的速度
Flat-out, full tilt boogie.
只要有可能 玛拉宁愿一直待在育儿袋里
Mala would ride in the pouch all the time if she could,
但那样是什么也学不到的
but that’s no way to learn.
不会蹦跳的袋鼠
A kangaroo that cannot hop
也就不会逃脱危险
is a kangaroo that cannot escape danger.
袋鼠帮在山谷中有很多邻居
The mob shares the valley with many neighbors.

Some friend and some foe.
谁是玛拉能信任的邻居？
Who can Mala trust?
山谷的地表之下 住着一个袋鼠们不想去招惹的家伙
Living beneath the valley floor is someone the roos try not to disturb.
他就是袋熊沃伦
This is Warrin the wombat.
这一带有名的坏脾气先生
The neighborhood grouch.
每天早上例行的蹭痒痒之后
After his daily morning scratch,
沃伦要开始工作了
it’s time for Warrin to get to work.
袋熊是独居动物 沃伦也不例外
Like all wombats, Warrin lives alone.
他非常注重保护自己的地盘
And he’s very protective of his prized patch.
沃伦对擅闯民宅行为毫不容忍♥
Warrin doesn’t tolerate trespassers.
所以 今天他要被骚扰了
So today, he’s in for a lot of bother.

An intruder is cutting in on his turf…

…eating Warrin’s grass.

Acting like he owns the place.

Gah! It’s an outrage.

In the midday sun, temperatures soar.
袋鼠们舔自己的前肢来降温
The kangaroos lick their arms to cool down.
然后 到了休息时间
And then, it’s time to relax.
但袋鼠每次打盹儿 几分钟就醒
But the roos only nap a few minutes at a time
而且一只耳朵 时刻侦听着任何风吹草动
with one ear always listening out for danger.
玛拉在学习各种声音传达的信息
Mala is learning the meaning of different sounds.
当山谷中鸟鸣悠扬
A valley full of song
就意味着一切安好
is a signal all is well.
凄厉的叫声则是警告
But a screech is a warning.
一只楔尾雕
A wedge-tailed eagle.
这只雕抓到了一只兔子
This one has caught a rabbit.
翼展超过两米
With a wingspan over seven feet,
楔尾雕可以攻击成年袋鼠
they are capable of attacking an adult kangaroo.
布鲁毫无察觉
Buru hasn’t even noticed.
这只雕开始狩猎了
And the eagle is on the hunt.
乘着高空的上升热气流
Riding the thermals high in the sky,
