They chop ’em up so much.

Most of the scenes oversumed

so you can’t see what’s going on.

Those guys have to go back and watch Bruce Lee movies.

You can see these awesome moves.

He’s doing in their entirety, you know.

You can have a shot

that doesn’t last only a haf second long.
快得不到半秒一切就结束了
I never even thought about it until I did in this movie Haywire.
在拍电影《制胜一击》之前 我从没想过能这样
Now every time I see a movie, I’m like,

“Stop cutting away.”

They were wonderful to watch.

whether the people involved know it or not.

I mean, you gotta keep the dialogue down.

We came over to Hong Kong

and that was when they showed the premiere of The Big Boss.

The theatre was packed.

Bruce and I sat there towards the back.
我和布鲁斯坐在最后排
When Bruce Lee’s first movie showed in Hollywood
当李小龙的第一部电影在好莱坞上映的时候
I was so elated I was so emotional
我因能在荧幕上看到我的朋友兼老师
seeing my friend, my teacher, on the screen.
而欣喜若狂 不能自已
When the movie finishes, it is so quiet…
电影结束时 一片寂静
You could hear a pin drop.
掉根针都能听见
And Bruce is like, “Oh no. They hate it. You know.”
布鲁斯说 糟糕 他们不喜欢这电影
And all of a sudden…
突然
A huge roar goes up.
欢呼声起
And they’re cheering and laughing and clapping.
观众欢呼狂笑 鼓掌不止
It was wonderful.
太棒了
Every time he came on and
他每次出现在动作场面中
did his fight scene, everybody applauded.
都会赢得一片欢呼
That’s when we knew he was a movie star now.
那时我们意识到他是个电影明星了
And then they started to spot Bruce in the audience.

They carried him out on their shoulders.

Oh, it was thrilling. It was thrilling to him.

“Finally I have been appreciated in my work.”

It was wonderfu, a very high moment in his life.

in which you use, what, the martial arts in a Western setting?

That was the original idea.

Bruce Lee had an idea for a TV show called The Warrior
李小龙对于勇士有自己的见地
which later became the series Kung Fu
后来他把它发展为功夫系列
which we all know and love.

David Carradine did a good job
大卫·卡拉丁干得不错
but Kung Fu, the TV series, was Bruce Lee’s role.
但是功夫系列才是李小龙的角色所在
The better guy doesn’t always get the job in the movie business.
电影产业中 优秀不等于衣食无忧
There’s a lot of politics involved.
电影界人际关机错综复杂
Have people come up in the industry and said
有没有业内人士说过
“We don’t know how the audience

are going to take a non-American?”
会不会认可非美国人
Well, such question has been raised.
这种问题的确出现过
In fact, it is being discussed
事实上 还引发过讨论
and that is why The Warrior probably is not gonna be on.
这也是勇士不能上映的原因
I see. You see?
明白了 明白了吗
Because unfortunately such thing does exist in this world.
因为很不幸 这种事情确实存在
Bruce Lee was a bigger star, both in Asia and America.
不论在亚洲还是美洲 李小龙都十分出名
He was a world-class martial artist.
他是世界级的武术家
He had already done The Green Hornet.
他成功出品了《青蜂侠》
And then he did not get the role for being too Asian.
但从此以后再也没机会饰演纯正的亚洲角色
He had such disdain for Hollywood
他十分鄙视好莱坞
and all those old movies
和所有那些
having Caucasian people play the parts of Chinese characters.
让白人饰演中国人角色的老电影
I have already made up my mind
我下定决心
that in the United States I think something about the Oriental
要在美国展示一些东方特色
I mean, the true Oriental, should be shown.
向美国人揭露最真实的东方文化
Hollywood sure as heck hasn’t. You better believe it man.

It’s always the pigtail and bouncing around, chop-chop

with the eyes slanted and all of that.

There’s nothing worse in a movie than when all of a sudden

some horrific stereotype shows ep.

You’re like,”Why? Just leave us out. Just leave us out.”

“We’d rather not exist in your world

He had a lot of celebrity students

and he was teaching them philosophy and martial arts

so he sold them.

But when it came down to

Hollywood was a terrible disappointment to him

especially because then you throw in the racial factor as well

that studios did not want to back a major Chinese star.

Asian stereotypes for women are really bad.

Her man is much worse.
男性的形象更糟糕
And I think he was railing against that his whole life.
我觉得他毕生都在谴责这一点
When that little thing of disrespect crept into my life again

which was the movie business, I got really angry.

It is kind of shocking, isn’t it,

I dont think

I could name an Asian romantic lead male.

There hasn’t really been anyone

since my uncle here, particularly in Hollywood.

Obviously out of China you have Jet Li, you have Donnie Yen.

There have been no great

Asian male leads in Hollywood who are sexy.

Er, a lead male. Asian-American?

I don’t even look at him as being Asian.
我从没把他看作是亚洲人
He’s like Bruce Lee. He’s like my idol.
他就是李小龙 他是我的偶像
And that’s something I guess
这方面我没多想过
I don’t think of so much but I guess, yeah.

A Chinese nationalist

watching Bruce Lee films will see Chinese nationalism.
