gild the lily画蛇添足
该词组指在已经很美好的事物上增添不必要的修饰，即多此一举、画蛇添足。这一表达实为对莎士比亚戏剧《约翰王》（King John ）第4幕第2场的错误引用所致：
To gild refined gold, to paint the lily ,
To throw a perfume on the violet,
To smooth the ice, or add another hue
Unto the rainbow, or with taper light
To seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish,
Is wasteful and ridiculous excess.
在纯金镀上金箔，替纯洁的百合花涂抹粉彩，
