在这个幻想曲节目中 有三种音乐
Now, there are three kinds of music on this Fantasia program.
第一种可以明确的叙述故事
First there’s the kind that tells a definite story.
还有一种没有特定的情节
Then there’s the kind that, while it has no specific plot,
却多多少少可以勾划出一幅幅画面
does paint a series of more or less definite pictures.
而第三种就是为了音乐而存在的
Then there’s the third kind: music that exists simply for its own sake.
现在要展开我们幻想曲之旅的曲目
The number that opens our Fantasia program…
我们称之为”绝对音乐”的第三种音乐
is music of this third kind.

It’s been more than 60 years since Walt Disney and his artists teamed up…
跟大♥师♥史托考夫斯基
with Maestro Leopold Stokowski
合作制♥作♥了一部电影叫做”音乐会电影”
to create a film they titled, The Concert Feature.
我想我们很高兴 那部电影后来改名为”幻想曲”
I think we’re all glad that they changed the name to Fantasia.
但是幻想曲应该是一部永恒的作品
You know, Fantasia was meant to be a perpetual work in progress.
每次你看的时候 都可以经历一些新作品
Every time you went to see it, you’d experience some new pieces…
和一些耳熟能详的曲调
along with some old familiar favorites.
但是这个点子被丢到一边了 一直到现在
But that idea fell by the wayside until now.

When you hear a title like “Pines of Rome,”

you might think of tree-lined streets and romantic ruins,
但迪士尼的动画家听到这曲子
but when the Disney animators heard this music,
却想到完全不同的东西
they thought of something completely different.

for a piece that’s inspired by a couple of my favorite artists.

First, there’s the illustrator, Al Hirschfeld,

who’s been drawing celebrities and Broadway stars for most of the 20th century.
还有一位作曲家格什温
Then there’s composer-songwriter George Gershwin,

who took jazz off the streets,

dressed her up and took her to the concert hall.

have cooked up dozens of ideas for new Fantasia segments.

Some of them made it to the big screen this time,

but others–lots of others–

how could I put this politely–didn’t.

For example, the Danish illustrator, Kay Nielsen,

drew these sketches for a segment inspired…

by Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries.”
往这边来 往那边走罗
Here they are, and there they go.
然后达利 就是那个画歪表的家伙–
Now, Salvador Dali–you know, the limp watches guy–
突然他有个新点子就是用棒球来比喻人生
he got into the act with an idea that featured baseball as a metaphor for life.

How come that didn’t work ? Makes perfect sense to me.

Let’s see, then we had a bug ballet and a baby ballet,

But they could never find the perfect musical match, until now.

Here’s Yefim Bronfman playing the Shostakovich “Piano Concerto No. 2″…
