The Winding River
(I)
Each fallen petal means a bit of spring passed away.
How sad to see so many blown down by the breeze!
Before all blossoms fall by the end of the day,
Fear not to drink more wine would put your mind at ease!
Kingfishers build their nest in a riverside hall;
An unicorn in stone before the graveyard lies.
We should enjoy life in response to nature’s call.
Why should we seek for vainglory in people’s eyes?

Du Fu was the left collector at the time when the An-Shi Rebellion was still going on. Qujiang River, also known as Qujiang Pond, is located in the south of Chang’an City, east of Zhuque Bridge, and was the largest scenic spot in Chang’an City during the Tang Dynasty.
