独立
空外[1]一鸷鸟[2],
河间双白鸥[3]。
飘飖[4]搏击便,
容易往来游。
草露亦多湿,
蛛丝仍未收。
天机近人事,
独立万端忧。
《独立》读来像一首寓言诗。第一联说:天上一只鹰,河中两只鸥。对仗工整。第二联说:鹰从天上冲下来,白鸥却还无忧无虑,从容不迫,在河中游来游去。这两句形式相对,意义相反。第三联说草上的露水会沾湿飞虫的翅膀,蜘蛛的罗网会捕捉小虫,所以小虫和白鸥一样,都在危险之中,却无警惕之心。第四联就把天人结合起来,说天上人间一样危险,诗人独立无言,不禁忧从中来。

Alone I Stand
A falcon hovers in the sky;
A pair of gulls on water glide.
The falcon darts down from on high
On gulls floating on river wide.
The dewy grass may wet the wing;
The spider’s net may trap the weak.
Nature and man are the same thing.
Aggrieved alone, I cannot speak.
《独立》为唐代著名诗人杜甫所作,体裁为五律。作品出自《杜工部集》,集中表达了诗人所处年代的政治黑暗以及诗人为国担忧的情怀。
“Alone I Stand” is a poem written by Du Fu, a famous poet of the Tang Dynasty, in the genre of five lines. The work is from the collection of Du Gongbu, and focuses on the political darkness of the poet’s time and the poet’s concern for his country.
