cast pearls before swine对牛弹琴
该短语指把珍贵之物送给不识货的人，即“对牛弹琴”之义。在早期著作中就已经出现了这一成语，比如14世纪的威廉·朗格兰（William Langland，1330—1387）在《农夫皮尔斯》（Piers Plowman ）中这样写道：
“Noli mittere Margeri – perles among hogges”.
“钦定版”《圣经》中《马太福音》第7章第6节中有这样一句话：
“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”
“不要把圣物给狗，也不要把你们的珍珠丢在猪面前，恐怕它践踏了珍珠，转过来咬你们。”
