Only leopards are strong enough to carry a kill into the trees.
鬣狗有可能很凶猛 但它们不会爬树
A hyena may be fierce, but it can’t climb.
很快 花豹开始享用它的第二顿饭了
In no time, the leopard is on to his second course.
鬣狗无计可施
There’s nothing the hyena can do
只有希望能分上一点点的残羹冷炙
But hope for a few scraps from the table.
花豹以为自己很安全 它确实应该是安全的
The leopard thinks he’s safe, and he should be.
但是现在的麻烦是 有一个几吨♥重的大家伙向它冲过来
But now several tons of trouble are bearing down on him.
这头大象因为被打搅了美梦 正是怒气不打一处来
The disturbed elephant is on the warpath…
让鬣狗窃喜的是
To the delight of the hyena.
现在终于该它施展身手了
Now it’s time for her to do what hyenas do best
机会难得
And steal an opportunity.
不是羚羊全肉 不过有总是比没有好
Not quite a whole impala, but better than nothing.
大象已经教训了花豹
The elephant has made his point.
花豹吓得直打哆嗦 不过它的肉还没有丢
The leopard is left shaken but still in possession of his meal.
虽然可以说 狮子在野牛那里遭遇重大挫折
The lions may have been thwarted by the buffalo,
不过 它们现在有了新的目标
But they now have a new target
可以作为今晚的娱乐活动
To round off their evening’s entertainment —
角马
Wildebeest.

The most fearsome of Africa’s super seven —
整个狮群集体作战 干掉一种猎物
The pride working together to bring down an animal
而这种猎物要 比任何单个狮子的个头大得多
Much bigger than any single lion.
一只狮子紧紧地咬住了角马的要害
One cat secures the stranglehold which will kill the wildebeest.
其余的则帮它压住猎物
The others keep her pinned down.
这次捕杀是一次大丰收
This is a big kill.
整个狮群今晚都有得吃了
The whole pride will feed tonight.
正在这个关头 雄狮出现了
Right on cue, the male lion shows up.
狮群里没有界限分明的等级制度
The lion pride doesn’t have a strong hierarchy,
所以角马一死 个个都自顾自地吃起来
So with a wildebeest dead, it’s now every cat for itself.
集体作战时一心一意的合作精神 此时早已荡然无存
Gone is the single-minded cooperation of the group hunt,
取而代之的是 为了争一口吃的 而展开的最原始的竞争
Replaced by raw competition for a bite.
等到这一夜过去后 它们都会吃得很饱
By the end of the night, they will all have their fill.
今晚唯一倒霉的捕食动物
There is only one predator who has lost out tonight —
是鬣狗
The hyena.
它还饿着肚子
She is still hungry.
花豹吸取了教训
The leopard has learned his lesson
把捕杀的猎物放在树上
And will keep his kill in the tree.
饥饿的鬣狗也是打定了主意
The hungry hyena is determined.
它需要有东西吃 否则就没有东西喂给自己的幼崽
She needs to eat if she is to feed her cubs.
这将是难熬的一夜
This will be a long night.
现在是早上6：00
It’s 6:00 a.m. —
对于一些动物来说是新的一天
A new day for some animals.
另外一些 整夜都在忙碌
Others have been active all night.
一些 运气不错
Some have been fortunate.
另外一些 仍然在寻找食物
Others are still searching for a meal.
狮子吃饱了
The lions are satisfied.
它们这一顿饭吃得很干净
Their evening meal has gone down well.
凉爽的早晨 又是一个捕食的好时候
The cool morning is another good time to hunt,
不过 这些狮子 哪里也不去了
But these cats aren’t going anywhere.
连管理领地的雄狮
Not even the territorial male
也无心开始每日一次的巡逻了
Can be bothered to begin his daily patrol.
才几个小时过去
It’s only been a few hours,
小野牛已经起来活动了
But already the young buffalo calf is up and moving.
它通过了一次很大的考验
He’s passed a big test —
它活过了出世后最艰难的时刻
To survive the critical first few hours of life.
想吃什么 张张嘴就有了
With food on tap,
它很快就会长大 长成一头健硕的公牛
He’ll grow quickly into a fine bull
并将担负起保卫集体的责任
And take his own turn at defending the herd.
它的母亲出色地帮它走到了这一步
His mother has done well to get him to this point.
猎豹已经早起 它们饿了
The cheetahs are up early, and they’re hungry.
它们昨天捕猎没有成功
They had no success Hunting yesterday,
不过 今天已经有了好兆头
But today is already looking better.
猎豹在研究它的猎物
The cheetah studies her prey.
哪头羊最弱？
Which one is weak?
哪里是最合适的攻击地点？
Where is the best place to attack?
哪头羊看起来最笨？
Which one looks the slowest?
但是 突然麻烦来了
But suddenly, trouble appears.
鬣狗妈妈已经嗅到了 狮子捕杀的猎物所发出的气味
The hyena mom has picked up the scent of the lion kill
正不顾一切地想要分一点点吃的
And is desperate for a scrap.
猎豹对其它的捕食动物 有着天生的怀疑
The cheetahs have a natural suspicion of other predators
需要对它保持警惕
And need to keep a watchful eye on her.
鬣狗很高兴能避开它们
The hyena is happy to steer clear of them.
它的心思都放在了它的第二顿饭上
She’s focused on her next meal.
它打算迅速地吃饱肚子 然后就回到幼崽的身边
Her plan is to feed quickly and then return to her cubs.
然而 它还不知道
However, she doesn’t yet know,
狮子什么也没有给它剩下来
The lions have left nothing for her.
再回到它的家里看看 小鬣狗开始闹了起来
Back at the den, the hyena cubs are stirring
它们饿得发慌 已经到了找到什么就吃什么的地步
And so hungry, they’ll try to eat any scrap they can find.
母亲不在 这个它们已经习惯了
They’re used to their mother’s absences.
但没有其它的鬣狗来保护它们
But with no other hyenas to protect them,
它们很容易受到攻击
They’re vulnerable.
可想而知
Not surprisingly,
幼崽在盼着自己的母亲回来
The cubs are eager for their mother to return.
在这棵树的上面
Up in this tree,
花豹因为战胜了鬣狗而有点得意
The leopard is enjoying his victory over the hyena.
它可以安心地休息 因为它知道自己的猎物现在安全了
He can relax, knowing that his kill is safe.
唯一让它烦心的是邻居
The only annoyance are his neighbors,
这些邻居对于它们中间 有这么一个杀手很不喜欢
Who don’t take kindly to a killer in their midst.
也许到地面上会清静一些
Perhaps it will be quieter on the ground.
但就在它以为
But just when he thought it was safe
从树上下来是安全的时候
To come out of the branches,
它的宿敌出现了
His old enemy turns up.
花豹想要赶走它 但没有用
The leopard does his best to put her off, but it’s no good.
虽然可以说 鬣狗打赢了这场战役
The hyena may have won this battle,
但是 它并没有打赢整个战争
But she hasn’t won the war.
花豹并没有丢掉自己的战利品 它还是饿
The leopard still has his prize, and she is still hungry.
接下来它还得继续前进
She’ll have to move on…
而花豹得继续忍♥受吵闹的邻居
…and leave him with the noisy neighbors.
今天早上 小猎豹的饥饿感
This morning, their growing hunger
已经变得越来越严重了 这有利于让它们更专心地学习
Should make the cheetah cubs better students.
它们很听话地跟在母亲的后面
They follow their mother obediently
直到有一样 让它们心里痒痒的东西出现了
Until one of them spots something tantalizing —
一头巨大的捻♥角羚
A large male kudu.
年轻的猎豹
The young cheetah
以为自己有本领扑倒这头捻♥角羚
Thinks he’s got what it takes to bring down the kudu.
还是它母亲见过世面
His mother knows better,
但是 年轻就是气盛
But the youngster is determined.
追逐开始了
The chase is on.
才几个回合下来 捻♥角羚就轻松把它给甩掉了
In just a few bounds, the kudu brushes him off.
真是一个丢脸的失败
A humiliating defeat.
不过 也许现在 年轻的猎豹
But perhaps now the young cheetah
会跟个头更适合自己的去较量一番
Will take on something more his own size.
最好回到妈妈的身边
Better return to mom.
早上10:00, 水池派对正开得热热闹闹
By 10:00 a.m., a pool party’s in full swing.
大象喜欢水
Elephants love water —
它们不在喝水的时候 就在水里洗澡
When they’re not drinking it, they’re bathing in it.
年轻的和年老的 全都 开心地投入水里
Young and old all throw themselves into the fun.
这头公象也想洗一个澡
The bull elephant is also in the mood for a bath,
但它得自己找一个水池
But he has to find his own pool.
犀牛和它的一家子
The rhino and her family
刚刚痛快地泡了一个澡 现在它们冒出来了
Are just emerging from a good wallow.
淤泥有利于保护它们的皮肤
The mud helps protect their skin.
灵敏的鼻子
The elephant’s sensitive nose
帮助这头大象找到了水坑
Helps him track down the waterhole.
于是 犀牛又赶忙躲起来
And once again, the rhinos are scrambling for cover.
这头公象越来越任性
The bull elephant is getting used to having his own way.
已经大半个早上过去了 太阳还是高高地挂在天上
By late morning, the sun is high.
不过 在天变得太热而不适合奔跑之前
But before it gets too hot to run,
猎豹又逮住了一次机会
The cheetahs are on to another opportunity —
一大群黑臀羚羊
A large herd of impala.
