And incredibly powerful legs

That can pull him through the branches.

It’s been three days since he last fed.

The late afternoon shadows will be perfect cover.

The buffalo can’t stay long in the water.

They don’t want to be caught here at night.

The leopard is headed their way.
而在反方向 狮子两兄弟的一个也过来了
And, from the other direction, comes one of the lion brothers.
情况不妙
This isn’t good.
一只野牛受惊就有可能引发连锁的恐慌反应
Just one spooked buffalo can start a panic.
怀孕的母牛必须不惜一切代价 呆在集体里
The pregnant cow must stay with the herd at all costs.
任何破绽都有可能引来杀身之祸
Any sign of weakness could spark an attack.
幸运的是 狮子只是路过而已
Fortunately, the lion brother is just passing through.
不过 野牛们赶路的时间也已经到了
But it’s time for the buffalo to be on their way,
它们要赶往地势较高的草原地带
To the higher grassland
那里的晚上更加暖和
Where the nighttime temperature will be warmer,
而且在那里更容易保护自己
And it will be easier to protect themselves.
它们并不需要狮子那冷冰冰的吼叫声
They don’t need the chilling lion’s roar
来提醒它们赶路
To remind them to move.

The two brothers are in peak condition,

But only rarely display their awesome power.

They prefer to let the females seize the day

And only show up when dinner’s served.

Back at the pride, the lionesses have a rude awakening.

The bull elephant has decided to throw his weight

In their direction.

He’s not showing signs of aggression yet,

But he’s uncomfortably close.

And obscure behind the bush,

The lions may not know until it’s too late if he charges.
最好给它足够的空间停下来休息 还有 要把幼崽也带走
Best to give him a wide berth and take the cubs, too.

The lions aren’t happy about being moved on,
不过凡事总有光明的一面
But every cloud has a silver lining.

They’ve stumbled onto an early dinner —

Wildebeests — who are blissfully unaware

Of what’s approaching.

The leading lioness takes up her position.

But she collides with one of her own.

And not too long into his daily patrol,

She’s too big to attack,

And, in fact, could do the leopard more damage.

And she’s smack in the middle of the leopard’s path.

All too often, a chance meeting in the African bush

Requires delicate maneuvers between animals.

Something else catches your eye…

Like a herd of impala.

It’s time for a detour.
Mala Mala盛产黑臀羚羊
Impala are plentiful in Mala Mala.

They’re also first-choice on a leopard’s menu.
但是花豹却遇到了一个麻烦
But the leopard has a problem —

There’s little cover between him and the impalas.

If he tries to cross this open ground, he’s sure to be spotted.

He’ll have to bide his time and follow slowly.

That’s one thing about the leopard —

He stalks his prey carefully

And waits for the right moment to strike.
母猎豹也很有耐心
The mother cheetah is also patient.

She knows an opportunity will pass by sooner or later.
需要的就是保持警惕
She just needs to be vigilant.
这门课 它的两只幼崽还是得学
Her two cubs still have to learn this lesson.

If they want a meal, they’ll need to work for it.

For now, they’re happy to let Mom take care of dinner.

The leopard’s meal is even further away.

There’s a good reason the lions failed

In their attack on the wildebeest —
