all hell breaks loose指恐怖的骚动、过激的反应、歇斯底里的愤怒等。该表达出自弥尔顿（John Milton）的《失乐园》（Paradise Lost ）第4卷，大天使加百列对撒旦奚落道：

“But wherefore thou alone? Where with thee

Came not all hell broke loose?”
