上帝也疯狂（1980）

这地方看起来像乐园 但它却是世界上最奇怪的沙漠
It looks like a paradise, but it is the most treacherous desert in the world:
卡拉哈里沙漠 在两季过后…
The Kalahari. After the short rainy season…
出现了很多的水坑 甚至河流
…there are many water holes, and even rivers.
但几个星期后 水都被卡拉哈里沙漠吸干了
But after a few weeks, the water sinks away into the deep Kalahari sand.
水坑及河流都成干枯现象
The water holes dry, and the rivers stop flowing.
绿草褪成一片 金黄的颜色…
The grass fades to a beautiful blond colour…
成了极佳的牧场
…that offers excellent grazing.
此后的九个月 将没有水可以喝
But for the next nine months, there’ll be no water to drink.
大部分的动物将移走他处
So most of the animals move away, leaving the blond grass uneaten.
人类没水活不了 就像躲瘟疫似地远离卡拉哈里
Humans avoid the Kalahari like the plague because man must have water.
所以这美丽的景色里 是不会有人出现的
So the beautiful landscapes are devoid of people.
除了卡拉哈里沙漠中的一小群人
Except for the little people of the Kalahari.
可爱小巧又优雅的 布希族
Pretty, dainty, small and graceful, the Bushmen.
这地方 通常人没几天就会渴死
Where any other person would die of thirst in a few days…
他们却在沙漠里 过着自己自足的生活
…they live quite contentedly in this desert.
他们善长找树根块茎及抓虫…
They know where to dig for roots and bugs and tubers…
他们也知道何种果类较为可口
…and which berries and pods are good to eat.
他们知道如何解决水的问题
Of course they know what to do about water.
在傍晚将树叶排好…
ln the early morning, you can collect dewdrops…
凌晨即能收集到露水
…from leaves that were carefully laid out the previous evening.
像这种植物亦可蓄水…
Or a plume of grass can be a reservoir.
如果你知道方法，这种树丛…
lf you have the know-how, a clump of twigs can tell you where to dig…
会让你发现一极大的块茎
…and you come to light with an enormous tuber.
用利器刮下表皮
You scrape shavings off it with a stick that is split for a sharp edge.
用手用力挤压即可
You take a handful of the shavings, point your thumb at your mouth and squeeze.
他们是最知足的民族
They must be the most contented people in the world.
他们没有犯罪及刑罚 也没有暴♥力♥及法律…
They have no crime, no punishment, no violence, no laws…
没有警♥察♥法官或老板可言
…no police, judges, rulers or bosses.
他们相信上帝供给的皆好而有用
They believe that the gods put only good and useful things on the earth for them.
在他们世界中充满善跟美
ln this world of theirs, nothing is bad or evil.
甚至毒蛇也不可怕…
Even a poisonous snake is not bad.
只要你能闪避
You just have to keep away from the sharp end.
一只蛇也非常有用 应该是说也非常可口
Actually, a snake is very good. ln fact, it’s delicious.
且蛇皮亦为上品皮类
And the skin makes a fine pouch.
他们以小家庭方式生活
They live in the vastness of the Kalahari in small family groups.
因此家族可能几年才碰在一起
One family of Bushmen might meet up with another once in a few years.
他们都离群索居…
But for the most part, they live in complete isolation…
他们不知道还有其他人类
…unaware there are other people in the world.
布希族没见过或听过所谓的文明
ln the deep Kalahari, there are Bushmen who have not heard of civilized man.
有时在万里无云时听到打雷…
Sometimes they hear a thundering sound when there are no clouds.
他们会以为是上帝吃多了 而在打嗝
They assume the gods have eaten too much and their tummies are rumbling.
有时飞机飞过 他们以为上帝肠胃不适
Sometimes they can even see the evidence of the gods’ flatulence.
他们拥有与世不同的一套语言…
Their language has an idiosyncrasy of its own.
大多是吵吵杂杂的声音
It seems to consist mainly of clicking sounds.
他们很和善
They’re very gentle people.
从不惩罚小孩和疾言以对
They’ll never punish a child or even speak harshly to it.
小孩也循规蹈矩！ 游戏也是可爱而极有创意
So the kids are extremely well-behaved. Their games are cute and inventive.
当他们需要觅食时…
When the family needs meat…
他们将麻药涂在箭头用来狩猎
…the hunter dips his arrow in a brew that acts as a tranquilliser.
羚羊被射中后只觉刺痛
When he shoots a buck, it feels a sting and the arrow drops out.
羚羊跑开了 但是越来越虚弱…
The buck runs away, but soon it gets drowsy…
然后就跑不动了
…and it stops running.
不久就因药性发作倒地
After a while, it goes to sleep.
有时猎人会向他们道歉解释 若不为了民生问题何忍♥出手
The hunter apologizes. He explains that his family needs the meat.
他们的特质 与其他种族最大的不同
The characteristic which really makes them different from all other races…
就是他们没所有权的意识
…is that they have no sense of ownership at all.
生活的环境也没有什么可争
Where they live, there’s nothing you can own.
就只有树木绿草和动物
Only trees and grass and animals.
这些布希人 一辈子没见过石头
These Bushmen have never seen a stone or a rock in their lives.
他们知道最硬的东西 就只有木头跟骨头
The hardest things they know are wood and bone.
他们住在一个和平的世界里 没有石头及钢筋水泥
They live in a gentle world, where nothing is as hard as rock, steel or concrete.
在南方仅六百哩有一城市
Only 600 miles to the south, there’s a vast city.
在这你能看见所谓的文明
And here you find civilized man.
人不甘于屈服于自然环境！
Civilized man refused to adapt himself to his environment.
反之要环境来迁就他们
lnstead he adapted his environment to suit him.
所以他们建立都市、筑路 交通工具、机器…
So he built cities, roads, vehicles, machinery.
为设法节省人力而绞尽脑汁…
And he put up power lines to run his labour-saving devices.
却不知见好就收
But he didn’t know when to stop.
越想改进生活环境…
The more he improved his surroundings to make life easier…
反使得生活变得更复杂
…the more complicated he made it.
小孩子被迫用十年或十五年 在学校…
Now his children are sentenced to 1 0 to 1 5 years of school, to learn…
学习如何在这复杂危险环境下生存
…how to survive in this complex and hazardous habitat.
不甘屈服于自然的文明人…
And civilized man, who refused to adapt to his surroundings…
发现他必须无时无刻去适应…
…now finds he has to adapt and re-adapt…
他自己所创的环境…
…every hour of the day to his self-created environment.
当时间指向星期一时…
For instance, if it’s Monday…
时间七点半到时 他们就必须离开已适应之居所…
…and 7:30 comes up, you have to dis- adapt from your domestic surroundings…
去适应一个格调相反的环境！
…and re-adapt yourself to an entirely different environment.
八点，每个人都必须忙碌起来
8:00 means everybody has to look busy.

Lately, strange new things sometimes appeared in the sky.
像个不用拍翅膀就能飞的大鸟
Noisy birds that flew without flapping their wings.
某天，有个东西从天空而降
One day, something fell from the sky.
凯从未见过这玩意儿
Xi had never seen anything like this in his life.
看起来像水 却比任何东西都硬
It looked like water, but it was harder than anything else in the world.
他不解上帝为何将之丢下来
He wondered why the gods had sent this thing down to the earth.
这是他们所见最美好的事物
It was the strangest and most beautiful thing they had ever seen.
但不知上帝为何交付他们
They wondered why the gods had sent it to them.
帕布的手指卡在瓶口 小孩觉得非常滑稽
Pabo got his finger stuck in the thing and the children thought he was very funny.
凯首先试出它能杆皮 其形状重量恰到好处
Xi tried the thing out to cure thongs. It had the right shape and weight.
尤其杆蛇皮最理想不过！
It was also beautifully smooth and ideal for curing snakeskin.
帕布还发现它可吹出音乐
And Pabo discovered you could make music on it.
每天都能发现新的用途
And every day they discovered a new use for the thing.
这是他们所见最硬的东西 且是最光滑的东西
It was harder and heavier and smoother than anything they’d ever known.
是上帝所赐最有用的
It was the most useful thing the gods had ever given them.
非常省力的工具
A real labour-saving device.
但上帝太大意，只送来一个
But the gods had been careless. They had sent only one.
在他们心中，这是第一次 有件东西都不能分享…
Now, for the first time, here was a thing that could not be shared…
因为它只有一个
…because there was only one of it.
突然大家都有急用…
Suddenly, everybody needed it most of the time.
本来不需要的却变成必要的！
A thing they had never needed before became a necessity.
不常见的情绪开始激发…
And unfamiliar emotions began to stir.
只想占有，而不愿分享
A feeling of wanting to own, of not wanting to share.
其它新的情绪随之而生 像是嫉妒和仇恨
Other new things came. Anger, jealousy, hate and violence.
凯在生上帝的气
Xi was angry with the gods.
他喊着：“拿回去，我们不要 它只会惹祸”
He shouted, ”Take back your thing! We don’t want it! Look at the trouble it brought. ”
但上帝并不回收
The gods did not take it back.
凯喊着：“你发疯了，拿回去”
He shouted, ”You must be crazy to send us this thing! Take it back!”
然后他叫着，“小心！小心！”
Then he shouted, ”Look out! Look out!”
但为时已迟 东西打在他女儿丹妮头上
But he spoke too late and the thing felled his daughter Dani.
凯带瓶远离家园，挖地掩埋！
Xi carried the thing away from the shelter and buried it.
