Li Bai was deeply influenced by the thoughts of Huang Lao Lie Zhuang, and his “Li Taibai Collection” was handed down to the world. Most of his poems were written when he was drunk. His representative works include “Wanglu Mountain Waterfall”, “Difficulties in Traveling”, “Difficulties in Shu Road”, “Jiang Entering Wine”, and “Mingtang” “Fu”, “Early Delivery of Baidi City” and many other poems.

 

塞下曲

(六首其一)

五月天山[1]雪,

无花只有寒。

笛中闻《折柳》,

春色未曾看。

晓战随金鼓[2],

宵眠抱玉鞍。

愿将腰下剑,

直为斩楼兰。

李白所作《塞下曲》共六首,此为其第一首。五月,在中原本是盛夏时节,李白所写五月在塞下,在天山,地域的差异带来的是所见所感的迥然有别。天山孤拔,终年积雪。同一季节景物上的巨大反差,在诗人的笔下并未显得波澜壮阔,只是淡淡地道出“无花只有寒”,透着一丝苍凉。因为在边疆,将士们对苦寒习以为常,这里看不到春天,只能从笛曲之中,去感受,去回忆,何况又是《折柳》这样的“天涯人断肠”之曲,极力烘托渲染苍凉肃杀的气氛。后四句则是对军营生活的反映,以及对戍边将士们人人奋勇、争为功先的情感流露。朝,闻鼓搏战;暮,枕鞍而眠,极写军旅生活的紧张。尾联用了西汉傅介子的故事,借此表达了边塞将士的爱国激情。全篇苍凉雄浑,意境天成,是别具一格的边塞佳作。

In summer sky-high mountains white with snow,

In bitter cold no fragrant flowers blow.

Songs on the flute are heard of Willows Green,

But nowhere is the vernal color seen.

From dawn till dusk to beats of drum they fight;

With saddle in their arms they rest at night.

From scabbard at my waist I’d draw my sword

To killthe chieftain oftheTurki horde.

 

In Li Bai’s poems, imagination, exaggeration, metaphors, and personification are often combined to create magical, magnificent, and moving artistic conceptions. This is why Li Bai’s romantic poems are bold, unrestrained, and elegant.
