与夏十二[1]登岳阳楼
楼观岳阳[2]尽，
川迥洞庭开。
雁引愁心去，
山衔好月来。
云间连下榻，
天上接行杯。
醉后凉风起，
吹人舞袖回[3]。
公元759年，李白到江陵后，南游岳阳，同他的朋友夏十二（排行十二）登上了岳阳楼。凭栏远望，天岳山南无边景色尽收眼底，河水流向洞庭湖，浩荡开阔，汪洋无际。秋雁高飞，带走了诗人忧愁之心；月出山口，仿佛是高山吐出了明月。在岳阳楼上饮酒，潇洒自如！全诗没写一个高字，只从周围景物的浩渺、开阔、高耸落笔，无处不显得楼高，同时写出了诗人的超脱豁达、豪情逸志。

[2]岳阳：今湖南省岳阳市，以在天岳山之南，故名。

Ascending the Tower of Yueyang[1]with Xia the Twelfth
On scenes so vast the Tower feasts our eye;
The river stretches into the Lake of South.[2]
Taking away our sorrow,wild geese fly;
Green mountains throw the moon up from their mouth.
Make of white cloud a comfortable bed,
And pass around wine cups in azure skies.
Drunken,let cooling breezes blow and spread
Our dancing sleeves which flap like butterflies.
