Yan Shu –

Silk-washing Stream
Yan Shu

A song filled with new words, a cup filled with old wine,
The bower is last year’s, the weather is as fine.
Will last year reappear as the sun on decline?

Deeply I sigh for the fallen flowers in vain;
Vaguely I seem to know the swallows come again.
In fragrant garden path alone I still remain.

注释:
The poet regrets that happy time will not reappear.

Yan Shu –

“Silk-washing Stream” is a lyric by Yanshu of the Song Dynasty. Although it contains the meaning of sorrowing the spring and cherishing the time, it is actually a lamentation and expression of nostalgia, mourning the remaining spring and the passing of the years, and implying the meaning of nostalgia for others. The upper piece of the poem is a combination of the present and the past, superimposing time and space, focusing on thinking of the past; the lower piece is a clever use of the scene before us, focusing on the sadness of the present. The language is fluent, clear and natural, and the meaning is deep, enlightening and intriguing. The deep thoughts on the universe and life in the lyrics give people philosophical enlightenment and artistic enjoyment of beauty. The two lines of the poem, “The flowers are falling, the swallows are coming back as if they had known each other before,” have always been praised.
