皇甫冉[2]
花枝[3]出建章[4]，
凤管[5]发昭阳[6]。
借问承恩者[7]，
双蛾[8]几许长？
注释：
[1] 婕妤：古代宫妃的称号。此指汉武帝时的才女班婕妤。
[2] 皇甫冉：唐代诗人。《千家诗》注说：“婕妤，宫妃名。汉成帝时班婕妤贤而无宠，后人多咏之，谱入乐府。此拟古乐府题而写婕妤之怨也。昔婕妤静处深宫，不希恩宠，见别宫如花之女，奉诏而入建章宫；又闻昭阳殿内已命凤管鸾箫以宴之矣。试问承恩之美女，双蛾之眉黛几许之长，则亦同吾一样之蛾眉也，何有异哉！”这首诗为后宫嫔妃鸣不平，批评了好色不好德的帝王，也间接反对了轻视女性的封建制度。

Flowers seen out of western wall,
Music heard from the palace hall,
I would ask the favorite there,
“How long can your eyebrows be fair?”

This poem depicts the psychological activities of a disgraced concubine after she sees a newly favored concubine’s smug scene, as seen through the eyes and mouth of a disgraced concubine.
