岑参
火山[3]六月应更热，
赤亭道[4]口行人绝。
知君惯度祁连城[5]，
岂能愁见轮台[6]月。
脱鞍暂入酒家垆[7]，
送君万里西击胡。
功名只向马上取，
真是英雄一丈夫。
注释：
[1] 李副使：名不详。副使，官名，唐制，于节度使下设副使一人协理军中事务。
[2] 碛（qì）西：指安西。《唐会要》卷七八：“安西四镇节度使，开元十二年以后，或称碛西节度，或称四镇节度。”安西即今天新疆维吾尔自治区库车县附近地区。
[3] 火山：今新疆吐鲁番盆地中的火焰山。
[4] 赤亭道：位于火山附近，在今新疆鄯县境内。
[5] 祁（qí）连城：今甘肃张掖东南，位于燕支山西侧，为唐代使西必经之地。
[6] 轮台：唐代庭州有轮台县，这里指的是汉置古轮台（今新疆轮台县东南），李副使赴碛西必经此地。
[7] 垆（lú）：酒店安置酒瓮的土墩子，后成为酒店的代称。

Fiery Mountain in sixth moon hotter than before,
No people pass by Red Pavilion any more.
I know you’re used to hardship on the west frontier;
Oh, could the moon over Wheel Tower make you drear?
Unsaddle your horse, drink and drown in wine your woe;
I’ll see you go for miles and miles to beat the foe.
You will win rank and fame only on battle steed;
A real hero must have done heroic deed.
This quatrain reveals a wife’s fear of being deserted.
