纳努也长大了
Nanu has grown as well.
已经两岁大了 但她仍然依靠着妈妈
At two years old, she’s still dependent on her mother.
直到某天早晨 妈妈与她分开了一段距离
But a morning comes when her mother remains distant.
在这新的环境气候下 她妈妈不得不这样做
Changing conditions are forcing her mother…
做这个比以往都要早的决定
to do something earlier than usual.
纳努从妈妈的眼睛看出了 一些她以前没看到过的东西
Nanu sees something in her mother’s eyes that she’s never seen before.
最后她终于明白到
One look tells her
跟妈妈 一起生活的日子已走到尽头
that life with her mother is over.
北极熊妈妈已经 不能再准备两份食物了
Mother Bear can no longer provide for them both.
为了大家都能生存 下去 她只能把纳努赶走
ln order for them to survive, she must drive Nanu away.
与妈妈的分离是 纳努有生以来最难受的事情
Leaving is the hardest thing Nanu has ever done.
对妈妈来说也是
But it’s also hard for her mother.
她已不知道自己能不能继续保护纳努
She can’t protect her young one anymore,
也不知道纳努能不能自己生存下去
nor even see how she fares.
她们可能永远也不能再见面了
She may never see her again.
在出生的两年后
And so, only in her second year.
纳努开始了孤独的旅程
Nanu embarks on a life all alone.
好在 也并不是全程都孤独的
Well, not all alone.
比预期中更早 春天已经到达了冰雪王国
Earlier than expected, spring warmth envelops the Arctic.
狩猎的地方在零零散散地漂浮着 那里面一只海豹也没有
The hunting grounds are flooded. There aren’t any seals here.
所以纳努只好慢慢徘徊
So Nanu heads out beyond the ice she knows,
希望可以找到点能吃的东西
hoping to find something to eat.
所有东西都可以
Anything.
这些鸟对她来说是十分新鲜的东西
Thick-billed murres are new to her.
虽然只够她挤牙缝
Hardly a mouthful apiece,
但在这种情况下 不允许她挑食
but under the circumstances, worth investigating.

But as Nanu is about to discover,

there’s something fishy about these birds.

Nanu hasn’t got a chance.

Then, something even more bizarre.

Nanu has come upon a herd of narwhals,

the unicorns of the sea.

Their ivory tusks, laced with nerve endings, are so sensitive…

they’re able to taste the air and the sea,
探测温度和气候
reading the temperature and weather.
作为北极圈里不为人知的神秘部族
Like a lost tribe of the Arctic,
他们一直徘徊在海里面
the narwhals roam the sea,
他们一直是时间的沉默的见证者
bearing silent witness to the changing times.
北极的冰块从来没试过 这么快就开始碎成这个样子
Never before has the Arctic ice broken up so early and so abruptly.
狩猎成了不可能的事情
Hunting is impossible.
跟纳努相反 这只小狐狸并不会游泳
Unlike Nanu, Foxy can’t swim.

Stymied by the melting ice, he’ll have to say goodbye to his bear.

Nanu faces her own crisis.

ln the cramped conditions, tempers flare.
泽拉从来没碰到过如此差的冰层
Seela has never experienced a bad ice year.
但大人们碰到过
The adults have,
虽然都比这块要好
though never one this severe.
最后 一只海象发出信息号♥召
Finally, one walrus triggers a collective decision
大家放弃正逐渐缩小的冰块
to abandon the shrinking ice.
他们必须得找个新的驻扎地
They’ll have to search for a new home.
但他们不能去在 雪山附近的海岸那边
They can’t go to the shore near Snow Mountain,
因为那里是北极熊的聚集地
because of the bears there.
所以他们选择朝大海进发
So they take their chances in the open sea,
希望能在远处找到一块安全的小岛
aiming for a distant island where they’ll be safe.
他们日以继夜不停地游过 200公里的旅程
They’ll have to travel day and night on a week-long,
持续1个星期
200-mile swim.
在支离破碎的冰层上
Back on the broken ice field.
纳努对眼前发生的一切感到十分不安
Nanu’s whole world seems to be turning upside down.
她应该选择留在这块永远 找不到食物的冰层上呢
Should she stay on the remnants of ice, where she can’t find food?
还是跟随猎物的气味 朝到处充满未知大海进发
Or follow the scent of prey out into the unknown sea?
是时候要作出抉择了
Now is the time to be bold.

But not hasty.
在求生欲望的驱使下 她决定豁出去了
Driven by a fierce will to survive, she risks everything.
最后 他们终于找到了 一块立于♥大♥海♥中♥央♥的避难所
Finally, they reach a refuge far at sea.
一块巨大的岩石
Rock lsland.
大家都筋疲力尽了
The herd is exhausted.
但现在还不能休息 他们得找个上岸的地点
But before they can rest, they must find a place to haul out.
泽拉已经累坏了 似乎连一英寸也游不动了
Seela is too tired to swim another inch.
但要离开水不是一件轻松的事情
But getting out could be a problem.
爬上岩石可比爬上浮冰要费劲多了
Climbing up steep rocks is even harder than crawling onto an ice floe.
他们需要用自己的那滑溜溜的鳍
They’ll have to lift 2,000 pounds of blubber,
去抬起900公斤重的脂肪
using only the strength of their flippers.

Maybe they should have laid off some of those clams.

The herd’s slumber might not be so deep…

And where there’s a bear…

He’s a local fox, dressed in summer camouflage.
在这块岩石岛上 他可 不用去吃北极熊的剩菜
On Rock lsland, he doesn’t really need leftovers.
因为这里有很多山鸟宝宝可以当作食物
There are more murre chicks than he can possibly eat.
这些鸟没地方逃走
There’s nowhere to run.
他们还太年轻 飞不起来
And they’re still too young to fly.
被狐狸吃掉或者跳下去 现在只能二选一
Caught between a fox and a hard place,
山鸟爸爸给他的孩子指引了一条不合常规的道路
a murre father makes a remarkable request.
他鼓励年幼的山鸟跟家人一起往下跳
The leap of faith inspires the entire flock.
这个小生命也参与了 搜索避难所的行动中
One youngster finds refuge in the sea.
另一边 纳努找到了一块浮冰当救生艇
Another, in the nick of time, on a rare raft of ice.
她已经游了整整一天了
Nanu has paddled for days,
极度地疲劳使她差点溺水
and grown so exhausted that she nearly drowned.
这块小小的休息室救了她的生命
This tiny place to rest has saved her life.
在岩石岛 夏日的太阳持续照射 产生出一股股的热浪
On Rock lsland, the summer sun generates a heat wave.
温度超过了可结冰的范围
The temperature climbs well above freezing.
炎热导致了令人厌烦的瘙痒
The warmth triggers an exasperating itch,
痒了就得抓 不管哪里痒 或用什么方式去抓
and an itch must be scratched, no matter where, no matter how.
泽拉也觉得心痒痒了
Seela has an itch of her own,
她想离开这里 一个人 出去走走 就那么一会儿
to escape the crush of her family, if only for a while.
海象并不擅长攀岩
Walruses aren’t designed for mountain-climbing,
但她努力在尝试
but she pushes on.

Auntie sees Seela wandering off on her own…
便开始出发尾随她
and starts after her…

as fast as her blubber will allow.

Suddenly, Seela disappears.

When Auntie calls, she gets no response.

Seela is strangely silent.
她的失足导致自己 陷入了可怕的危险之中
Her adventure has taken a terrifying turn.
她被困在一块狭窄的岩石中间
A stumble has left her trapped on a narrow ledge.
而且没人会发现这里
And someone has spotted her.
一只雄性北极熊 慢慢接近 准备攻击她
The male polar bear moves closer to attack,
泽拉决定铤而走险
and Seela takes desperate action.

She’ll be sore,

but alive.
现在她拼命赶去警告大家
Now she races to warn the others.
姨妈是最后一个离开这个岛的
Auntie is the last one off the island.
泽拉的妈妈找到了她
Seela’s mother finds her,
姨妈也随后来到
and Auntie joins them.
北极熊失去了这次狩猎的机会
The bear bides his time.
泽拉和大家一起撤退到岛的另一头
Seela and family retreat to another part of Rock lsland.
不断消失的冰层导致 其他的海象也来到了这个岛
They join the other herds driven here by the vanishing Arctic ice.
环境的变化使大家束手无策 同时也带来了一系列的危机
The changing conditions have left many stranded and vulnerable,
还有饥饿和绝望
and others desperate and hungry.
纳努终于到达了这块岩石小岛
Nanu reaches the shallows of Rock lsland,
经过了一整个星期的旅途
