在人类生活的地方之上 有一个很偏远的古老王国
Far beyond the world we humans know, there is a remote and ancient kingdom.

To most of us, it seems a frozen wasteland.
但对于那些懂得如何在这
But to creatures designed
可怕的温度下生存的动物们来说
for astonishing cold,

it’s always been a paradise on Earth.

Snuggled deep in this protective ice, one little life is just beginning.
她整整一个星期都生活在暗处
For weeks she’s lived in darkness.
注视着头顶上方的 那一圈亮光
Staring at the circle of light above her.
上面有什么呢
What lies beyond it?
在好奇心的驱使下 她第一次向光亮爬去
Curiosity leads her to peek into the light for the first time.
“纳努” 她是一只小北极熊
‘Nanu,’ she might be called in the north. ‘Little polar bear.’
外面的世界尽是白茫茫的一片
The world outside is a blanket of white unfolding before her.
这是一个有别于地球上其他任何地方的宏伟之地
lt is a majestic place unlike any other on Earth.
一个立于我们世界之顶的浩瀚王国
A vast kingdom at the very top of our world.
一个覆盖着冰雪的王国
A kingdom of ice.
还有另外一个小生命开始了探索这个世界的旅程
There’s another youngster exploring for the first time.
她看见了蔚蓝的冰川世界
She sees a blue world of ice water.
泽拉是一只海象宝宝 在一个小时之前刚刚出生
Seela is a walrus pup, only hours old,
跟那只北极熊宝宝一样 热切地想要探索她身边的事物
but like the young bear, eager to discover the world around her.
像所有新出生的生命一样 他们有很多东西需要学习
Like all newborns, they have much to learn.
他们是北极圈的儿女
They’re children of the Arctic,
生活在冰天雪地之中
their lives cradled by the ice around them.
但是这个世界正在改变
But their world is changing.

And they will face challenges never before encountered by their species.

Their adventures begin today.
北极传说
在这个被大雪覆盖的山上 万物于春天开始复苏
lt all begins one spring on this snow-covered mountain.
纳努的妈妈受够了这个狭窄的洞穴
Nanu’s mother has had enough of her cramped cave.
她在这个兽穴分娩后 已经六个月没吃喝过了
She’s remained in the birthing den for six months without eating or drinking.
在冬眠期间 她生了一对双胞胎
ln the dark of winter, she produced twins.
纳努和她的弟弟
Nanu and her brother.

lt’s 20 degrees below zero today. Piercing cold.
对北极熊来说是个很舒适的温度
Perfect for a polar bear.
纳努有点不情愿离开这个兽穴
Nanu’s a little hesitant to leave the den.
但如果你的妈妈是只北极熊
But when your mother is a polar bear
她叫唤你的时候 你最好马上过去
and she calls you, you’d best be going.
纳努很活泼
Nanu is feisty.
她的弟弟则显得有点害羞
Her brother, a little timid.

She’s ready to play anytime.

Just beyond lies the world of Seela’s birth.

A maze of ice floes that serves as a protected nursery.

Here, a walrus mother can lavish care on her newborn pup.
多亏了他们那灵敏的胡子 他们可以牢牢地记住对方的脸
Using their sensitive whiskers, they memorize each other’s face for life.
没错
That’s right.

Those sweet ‘staches aren’t just for style.
还有一张脸等待着泽拉去辨认
But Seela has a second face to learn.
那里还有一只雌性海象 等着看到这个可爱的宝宝
Another female has been waiting to hear those first barks.
她将会扮演泽拉的姨妈 去好好保护她
She’ll act as an aunt and fierce protector…
直道泽拉可以独自面对这个世界为止
until Seela is old enough to face the world on her own.

The first skill to master is getting out of the water.
如果泽拉没学成 她很快就会着凉 然后会溺水
lf Seela fails, she’ll get too cold and drown.
姨妈则在远处警戒着猎杀者
As Auntie keeps watch for predators.
泽拉的妈妈耐心地教导着她
Seela’s mother patiently shows her how.
但问题是
Problem is,
练习翻筋斗比这个可要有趣多了
practicing somersaults is much more fun.
虽然海象妈妈可以把这个35公斤的女儿弄上水面
Her mother can urge her 80-pound infant along.
但泽拉确实需要学习如何自己上水了
But Seela’s got to master the heavy lifting on her own.
海象妈妈还需要照顾这调皮的孩子3年
lt’s gonna be a long three years with this little handful.
姨妈则开始后悔签订那个合约了
Auntie must wonder what she signed up for.
在雪山里头 纳努的弟弟耽搁了大家的时间
On Snow Mountain, Nanu’s brother is delaying the start of a family trip.
他仍然无法克服这个小洞
He still hasn’t quite mastered that hole.
但纳努的妈妈实在不能再等了 她饿极了
Nanu’s mother can’t wait any longer. She’s starving.
找寻食物的唯一办法就是到那冰冷的水里去冒险
Her only hope for finding food is to venture down onto the frozen ocean,
到他们那世世代代的狩猎地点里去
her age-old hunting grounds.
就这样 他们开始了北极熊的游牧生活
And so they begin the wandering life of polar bears,
远离家园
leaving behind their birthplace…
启程前往充满未知的冒险旅途
for unknown adventures ahead.
很快他们认识了一个一起上路的伙伴
They soon pick up a little tagalong.
纳努的妈妈发现了一道警戒的征兆
Nanu’s mother finds a worrisome sign,
这些脚印是属于这个冰雪王国
tracks left by the only animal
中唯一可以威胁到他们生命的动物
in the ice kingdom that can threaten her.
雄性北极熊
A male polar bear.
北极熊妈妈知道
She knows that,
如果给他机会的话 他会来攻击她的宝宝
given the chance, he might attack her cubs.
但这只雄性北极熊对另一样东西更有兴趣
But the male bear is more interested in something else.
他从风中嗅到一公里以外的猎物的气味
He’s caught a scent on the wind, miles away.
一只新出生的海象
Newborn walrus.
一眼看去 泽拉的确是一个很轻松的捕食对象
At first glance, Seela looks like easy pickings.
姨妈感觉到危险的气息
Auntie senses danger.
北极熊开始向他们冲过来 姨妈也冲过去拦截他
As the bear gains on them, Auntie races to block him.
北极熊虽然让人感觉很强壮
The bear is powerful, all right,
但事实上 他只有海象一半的重量
but he weighs half as much as Auntie…
而且他也不擅长水里的行动
and he has no leverage in the water.
最后 他放弃了
He withdraws, for now.
泽拉完全没发现刚才自己是多么的幸运
Seela is luckier than she’ll ever know.
只有很少的雌性海象能产下孩子
A female walrus doesn’t give birth very often.
所以泽拉可是一个宝贵的珍品
So Seela is treasured,
不只是对她妈妈和姨妈来说
not only by her mother and aunt,
而是对于整群的海象来说
but by the whole herd.
他们可不只是单纯 一个团队而已 而是一个大家庭
And they’re not just a group, but a close family.
一个非常亲切的大家庭
A really close family.
他们互相之间毫无保留 都伏在另一个的身上
All on top of each other, all up in each other’s business.
表兄弟 祖母 祖父
Cousins, grandmothers, grandfathers.
竟然没有一个可怕的叔叔 多么融洽的一个大家庭啊
And what family doesn’t have a scary uncle?
他们的一个远房♥亲戚正游向水面
Not far off, a distant cousin of the walrus heads for the surface.
环斑海豹利用几个连接水面的洞口换气
A ringed seal maintains several breathing holes throughout the ice field.
那是他们进出水面的私人出入口
Her private portals between sea and air.
但问题是 她永远不会知道有哪些凶残的猎食者
Trouble is, she never knows what ferocious predator…
会在出口等待她
might be waiting at the surface.
在冰层下面 她似乎毫无威胁
She can handle a gull stare-down,
但环斑海豹可是北极熊最爱的食物
but the ringed seal is the favorite food of polar bears.
事实上 她也正好是纳努妈妈的捕食对象
ln fact, that’s what Nanu’s mother is hunting right now,
接着是纳努 然后是她的弟弟
followed by Nanu and her little brother,
还有他们那狡猾的小伙伴
and their foxy little friend.
环斑海豹有个能很好防御 猎食者的保护措施 冰层
The ringed seal has one great ally against the bear, the ice.
她可以钻进覆盖着厚雪的小洞孔中
She can sneak into a cave hidden under the hard surface snow…
然后就只能祈祷 那些北极熊找不到她了
and hope that the bear can’t find her.
但不幸的是
Unluckily for the seal.
纳努的妈妈可以嗅到冰层下3米内的东西
Nanu’s mother can smell through three feet of snow.
这就好像跟一个有X射线透♥视♥镜♥的人玩捉迷藏一样
lt’s like playing hide-and-seek with someone with x-ray vision.
纳努很快就会学到
Nanu will soon learn…
在这冰雪王国里面 找顿吃的可不是件轻松的事情
it’s not that easy to get a meal in the ice kingdom.
通常每20次的捕食中 只有1次会成功
The prey escapes 19 times for every one success.
为了抚养宝宝 她是不容许放弃的
But you can’t give up when you’ve got babies to feed.
这是纳努妈妈6个月以来的第一顿饭
A first meal in six months sustains the mother…
也是宝宝们的奶水
and becomes milk for her cubs.
狡猾的伙伴也得到了一份 他们吃剩下的
And for the clever tagalong, leftovers.
跟北极熊妈妈不一样 海象们通常会全体出动觅食
Unlike the mother bear, a walrus seldom hunts alone.
当其中一只饿了
When one gets hungry,
其他的也会一样
the whole herd does.
