Yang Wanli –

Lament of a Fair Lady
· Raindrops on Lotus Leaves

Yang Wanli
I nap at noon in a leaflike boat beneath lotus flowers;
Their fragrance spreads over mist-veiled West Lake.
I hear my boat’s roof beaten by sudden showers,
And startled, I awake.
I find on lotus leaves leap drops of rain;
Like pearls they scatter and get together again.
They melt then into liquid silver
Flowing down the rippling river.

注释:
The poet gives a very vivid picture of the lotus in rain.

“Lament of a Fair Lady · Raindrops on Lotus Leaves” is a poem written by Yang Wanli in the Song Dynasty. This small poem is written in a lively and light-hearted tone, describing the scene when he woke up from a dream of rafting on the West Lake and the rain. In the first piece, he writes that he was awakened from his dream when a sudden rainstorm hit the tent at the bottom of the West Lake. The next piece is about the scenery you saw when you woke up, which is interesting to reflect the previous dream. The lyrics are cleverly conceived and novel in mood. The dream and the reality are written in contrast, twisted and layered, rich in changes.
