At 10 minutes after 12 on the night of the killing,

he heard loud noises. Said it sounded like a fight.
而且他听到那孩子大叫：“我要杀了你”
And he heard the kid yell out “I’m gonna kill ya.”
一秒钟后他听见人体撞在地板上
A second later, he heard a body hit the floor.
跑到门口 打开门
Ran to the door, opened it up,
看到那孩子冲下楼梯离开房♥子
saw the kid run down the stairs and out of the house.

Called the police.
他们进去 发现那老子胸口插了一把刀
They came in found the old man with the knife in his chest.
法医推测死亡时间大约是午夜
The coroner fixed the time of death around midnight.
这些都是事实
Now, these are facts.
你无法反驳事实 那孩子有罪
You can’t refute facts. The kid is guilty.
我跟旁边的人一样有同情心
I’m just as sentimental as the next fella.

It is obvious to me anyway that the boy’s entire story was flimsy.

yet he couldn’t remember the names of the films he saw or who played in them.
没错 – 而且没人见过他进出电影院
That’s right. – And no one saw him at the theatre.

如果她的证词都不能证明 那就没有别的了
if her testimony don’t prove it, nothing does.
没错 她是实际看到凶杀的人
That’s right. She was the one who actually saw the killing.

and right across the street she sees the kid stick the knife into his father.

His window is opposite hers across the el tracks.
她发誓她看见他干的事情
She swore she saw him do it.
有一列电车经过窗前
Through the windows of a passing el train.
这辆电车上没有乘客
This el train had no passengers on it.
它正要开到市区去
It was just being moved downtown.
灯没开 记得吧？
The lights were out, remember?
他们在法庭上证明了：
and they proved in court that
晚上灯没开的时候 你可以透过车窗
at night you can look through the windows when lights were out
看到另一边发生的事情
and see what’s happening on the other side.

They heard an argument,

couldn’t hear about what.
然后他们听到那父亲打了那男孩两下
Then they heard the father hit the boy twice.
最后他们看到那男孩愤怒地冲出家门
Finally they saw the boy run, angry, out of the house.
那能证明什么呢？
What does that prove?
那不能实际证明什么 那只是事情的一部份
It don’t prove anything. It’s just part of the picture.
你说那证明了动机
You said it provided a motive.
公诉人也这么说
The prosecution said the samething
我觉得这不是个很强的动机
I don’t think it was a very strong motive.
